PDF to Limit

Compress a PDF for email

Set to 20 MB so it fits most email services. Lower it if your recipient's mailbox is stricter.

Your file stays on this computerWe never receive it. Safe for resumes, tax papers and IDs.

Where are you uploading?

MB Limits differ per site. Check the number on the upload page.

Email size limits

Personal Gmail accounts can send attachments up to 25 MB (Google). Outlook and work email are set by your provider or company, and are often similar or lower. The receiving mailbox has a limit too, so a file that leaves your inbox can still bounce.

That is why we start at 20 MB. It leaves room for the email itself and for stricter mailboxes.

Smaller files are better for everyone

  1. Faster to send and open, especially on phones.
  2. Less likely to be blocked by company mail filters.
  3. Several files? Compress them together and attach the ZIP, or send them in separate emails.

Why not just send a link?

Cloud links work, but they upload your document to a third party, and the recipient may not be able to open them at work. A compressed attachment keeps the document private and arrives as one file.

Sending several documents

  1. Add all files at once and download them as one ZIP, which most email apps attach as a single file.
  2. Use clear names, such as Lease-Signed.pdf and Pay-Stub-October.pdf, so the recipient knows what is what.
  3. Too much for one email? Send two emails rather than one that bounces.

Questions

My email bounced at 15 MB. Why?

The recipient's mail server may have a lower limit than yours. Try 10 MB.

Will images in the PDF look worse?

Only if needed. We try lossless first, then lower image quality only as far as needed to fit.

Can I do this on my phone?

Yes. Open this page in your phone's browser, choose the PDF, and attach the downloaded file to your email.

Is my document sent anywhere?

No. Compression happens on your device. Only you decide where it goes next.
